I came late in the day in June, 2007 and tired from a long day's walking on the Glyndwr's Way National Trail that literally goes right through Hillary's property. When I arrived, Hillary was temporarily out. I sat in her garden and fell asleep. I awoke to find Hillary there to welcome me and with a delightful concoction (almost like a lemonade) that she had brewed from the flowers in her garden. I normally don't eat in the evenings on my walking tours, but I could not say no to Hillary's cooking and conversation, both of which were delightful. The next day, she saved my feet a bit of pain by giving me a lift into Machynlleth, making that day's walking a bit more do-able. As you can see, I have not forgotten my stay with Hillary. You won't either!

I have visited Talbontdrain several times over the last 7 years and keep coming back. As a walking centre it is par' excellance. You really don't need the car after arriving, there is an abundance of routes from the house. Then of course Hilary's superb cooking to come back to after a long day in the hills :-)

Since my first trip to Talbontdrain 15 years ago, this cosy guesthouse has been a distant green haven forever present in my mind. Each of my ten-odd trips has been an absolute pleasure.

Surrounded by luscious green hills, the accommodation is exactly how I like it – simple, homely and wonderfully comfortable. I always make myself right at home, often opting for a snooze after breakfast in my incredibly cosy bed, or maybe getting myself lost in the stunning countryside that surrounds this former farmhouse.
Hilary has always catered extremely well for my vegetarian diet, with home-cooked breakfasts and dinners that are delicious and satisfying. Fresh eggs in the morning are an obvious highlight, but every meal I’ve had there has been a treat.
